The Walter Lantz Cartune Encyclopedia: Cartunes on Video: Universal Matinees
In 1998, Universal decided to release a handful of its classic westerns, fully restored to video cassette in a series called Universal Matinees. In addition to the feature film, the tapes also included a newsreel, trailer, serial chapter, and a black and white Walter Lantz cartoon. Unfortunately, Universal hardly distributed the series and eventually aborted it (six volumes were planned, only three were produced). Because of this, the serial Gordon of Ghost City (1933), presented in individual chapters on these tapes never became available in full. The series was discontinued in the early 2000s.
